The Pentax WG-8 features a 1/2.3" CMOS sensor with approximately 20 megapixels, delivering detailed JPEG images suitable for travel, outdoor activities and everyday shooting. Its native ISO range from 125 up to an expanded 64,000 helps capture scenes in challenging light, while built-in noise reduction preserves image clarity.

Optically, the WG-8 offers a 5x zoom (5–25 mm focal length) with a maximum aperture around f/5.5, and an 8.1x digital zoom for extra reach. Autofocus is handled via TTL with Auto focus adjustment and modes including Spot AF and Tracking AF, plus a handy AF assist beam to lock focus in low light. The macro capability reaches as close as 0.1 m in tele mode for close-up subject work.

For shutter and exposure control, the camera combines electronic and mechanical shutters up to 1/4000 s, and exposure compensation of ±2 EV in 1/3 EV steps. Metering options include centre-weighted, evaluative (multi-pattern) and spot modes. Flash options cover forced off, red-eye reduction, slow sync, fill flash and auto, with effective ranges up to 5.5 m wide.

Video recording supports 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) as well as Full HD and HD, using AVC/H.264/MPEG4 formats and a built-in microphone for on-the-go capture. Connectivity includes USB Type-C and HDMI for file transfer and playback, while Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth and NFC are not available on this model.
